Design a way to help communities find the best location for new vaccination sites
Project overview
SGVac is a mobile and responsive web app that helps people in Singapore find the best location for new vaccination sites. SGVac’s primary target users include youths and adults who are concerned with finding the most convenient vaccination site to protect themselves against infections.

The Problem
All citizens in Singapore need to be vaccinated to protect themselves against highly contagious diseases. The goal is to protect each citizen but also the community as a whole. The authorities need a way to help citizens to get access easily to vaccination sites, to improve the collective health of the community.
Goal
Design an app and responsive web app that will help people living in Singapore to get access to vaccination sites, spread out around the island.
My role
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery.
Resposibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.
Understanding the user
● User research
● Personas
● Problem statements
● Competitive audit
● Ideation
User Research Summary
I conducted interviews and empathy map with people living in Singapore, to understand the type of users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary group are people who have lived in Singapore for many years and of an older demographic - family with spouse and kids. The secondary group was to consider the large majority of youths. The user groups confirmed the assumptions about how much it frustrates them no to be able to quickly find and locate the best vaccination sites. They share about the time lost while trying to book a slot, waiting in line, making the process difficult and unpleasant, and generally creates more challenges and inconvenience.
Two user personas were chosen for this case study: (1) Thierry, a working student who goes to university and needs to find the quickest way to locate vaccination sites near his university. (2) Cam is married with 2 kids, and a working caregiver who needs to find a convenient place and time to bring her family to get vaccinated. As a working mum, she often come back late from work and has little time to spend with her children
Ideation
I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on the usability, user interface and overall experience of booking a vaccination site.

Starting the design
● Digital wireframes
● Low-fidelity prototype the design
● Usability studies
Digital Wireframes
After ideating and drafting some paper wireframes, I created the initial designs for the SGVac app. These designs focused on delivering personalised guidance to users to help them find the best vaccination sites.

Low-Fidelity Prototype
To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of finding a vaccination site and booking a slot.

Usability study: findings
These were the main findings uncovered by the usability study:
1
Map / List Views
People want easy access to both map and list views to choose their preferred vaccination site.
2
Wait time
People had difficulty finding the waiting time for each vaccination site.
3
Ability to filter / sort
People preferred to have the ability to search by quick filters.
Refining the design
● Mockups
● High-fidelity prototype
● Accessibility
Mockups
Based on the insights from the usability studies, I applied design changes like providing a clear section for fostering and filtering data by reviews, distance

Mockups
Additional design changes included adding waiting time and reviews directly from the listing page. This was based on insights received from usability research.

High-Fidelity Prototype
The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including design changes made after the usability study.

Responsive designs
With the app designs completed, I started work on designing the responsive website. I used the SG Vac App sitemap to guide the organisational structure of each screen’s design to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across devices. The designs for screen size variation included mobile, tablet, and desktop. I optimised the designs to fit specific user needs of each device and screen size.

Next Steps
Proposed steps to be conducted after alpha launch.
1
Research
Conduct research on how successful the app is in reaching the goal to decrease wait time and customer satisfaction.
2
Educate
Add more educational resources for users, to learn about what type of vaccine is recommended and for what age.
3
Reward
Provide incentives and rewards to users for successfully completing their vaccine.
